Double the Food in Half the Time!

The last Handyman event was a rousing success. Roscoe and the Pitmaster put out around 350 sandwiches in about four hours. But this time… well, we thought we were prepared for a bigger turnout.

It Was A Little Slow At First

Prepping at 9:30, all was well. The pulled pork was going into the warmer, the foil packs of onions and peppers were on the grill, then a sausage ring. People were mildly curious as they passed on their way into the store. But when they came out…

It Must’ve Been The Aroma

Some passed our table to get to the donuts and cider (which were excellent). After all, it seemed a little early for lunch, only 10:15 or so, but…

The Donut Wasn’t Enough

Pitmaster served up a Pulled Pork Slider. Then another, then another… No one was going for the Italian sausage yet, but then…

The Horde Descended

Suddenly, we were slammed. The Sliders were flying off the table. The Italian Sausage was disappearing. Somehow word got to the Handyman, and he laughed out loud on the air (he said he knew it would happen).

And They Kept Coming

Fortunately, we got help (from Mike O. and Pitmaster’s long lost son, Steve, thanks guys). The serving process went smoothly, Roscoe was able to concentrate on the grill, and Pitmaster was able to keep up the Pulled Pork and make more of his fantastic slaw.

All Gone By 12:15

Well, not quite: there were a few rolls left (out of over 400). Roscoe spotted some people crying in the parking lot, and he felt bad, but there was nothing he could do, except…

The Interview

The Handyman announced that there was no more food, which probably saved Ace Hardware from becoming a riot zone, and Roscoe and Pitmaster went on the air. They slid into their headsets like they were born for radio (they’ve both got the face for it), and the world found out why: professionals all the way, not only in the kitchen (on the grill and smoker), but in the studio (or on location).

The Security Team Was There

Though no one saw them, which is the way it should be. Roscoe and The Pitmaster are safe to do another show, and they will, as soon as they recover from this one.
