Was It Really Roscoe?

Some say it was, some say it wasn’t. Fidel Castro was rumored to have used doubles on occasion when he appeared in public in an effort to thwart any attempt on his life. Other heads of state have tried this tactic to varying degrees of success, though it’s not generally known which ones. As it should be.

Who Does It? Who Doesn’t?

It’s a difficult line to walk. On the one hand, you use a double and you’re safe, no question. On the other, you never know what the double is going to do. You can train them, but things can happen in public that no one can anticipate. So the risk is always there. They made a movie of it once with Kevin Kline, it wasn’t that good – Kline played a dopey guy who stood in for the President and instead of getting shot, he got the public to like him better than they did the real President – but it got leaders thinking about resurrecting the practice, especially the ones people didn’t like.

Our Guy Came Through

36 pounds of Italian sausage, with onions, peppers and garlic, along with 40 pounds of pulled pork, was cooked up and consumed by a ravenous public at the Novi Ace Family Hardware store on Saturday while the Handyman did his show. They came from miles around: one lady was looking for lunch for her son, with no intention of buying any hardware, and left more than satisfied. One young boy claimed he didn’t like pulled pork. The Pitmaster cajoled him into trying it (it’s not easy to say no to the Pitmaster), and now he’s a fan for life. It’s experiences like these that make it all worthwile: the blood, the sweat, the tears, the fears, the hunger and the love. All part of life. And whether it was really Roscoe there that day is not important.

Even On The Radio

No one could tell if it was Roscoe or not. The Handyman probably knew, but he’s sworn to secrecy, and there’s no amount of torture that can make him talk (they tried waterboarding the Handyman one time, but all involved have mysteriously disappeared). The Pitmaster knows for sure, but he’s not talking either. Besides, who knows if that was the real Pitmaster?

Only One Thing Matters

The food was good, and so was the show. And for all those who got to experience Cookin’ With Roscoe Live!, their lives are different now. They know first hand…

Life’s Good When You’re Cookin’ With Roscoe

And The Legend Lives On
